Trend forecaster Beautystreams says “Next-generation sun care, thinking local, the value of waste, menopause wellness and the importance of clinical proof-points are the top five beauty trends this year, being driven by an era of intentional consumption”.
What is intentional beauty?
Entering the era of intentional beauty means having a desire to embrace beauty products that address innate needs for ourselves and for the planet. It consists of welcoming beauty rituals of looking good and feeling good with mindfulness, consideration, and equanimity.
2023 Beauty trends to watch
These were the five coined trends to watch this year in beauty, per reported trends from the Cosmoprof Worldwide Bologna tradeshow held earlier this month:
1. Sola-Nova – next generation sun care both protects and educates.
Sun care is not just a seasonal category. Consumers are now seeking year-round protection, innovative formulas with function and sensorial properties.
2. Near & dear – thinking local means consuming mindfully.
Consumers are increasingly shifting to the localism trend. Localism is a way of feeling connected to the world of profound disconnection, supporting one’s community, heritage ingredients, local craftmanship and embrace local pride.
3. Not so trashy – discovering the value of waste.
Consumer perceptions of waste in beauty, such as upcycling, has become a “full-fledged movement, reimagining waste into an alternative, providing precious ingredients a second life”, that reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills. For the beauty industry, the food industry is a rich source of upcycled ingredients. Today’s waste is tomorrow’s valuable assets; not so trashy after all as coined by Beautystreams.
4. Meno-bliss – menopause is more than an event, it’s a journey.
This focuses on menopause wellness, a once overlooked concern that is catching up fast. Sophisticated products in this category addresses needs catering to a range of symptoms, ages and life stages. From perimenopause to menopause and post-menopause, the newest innovations recognized the diversity of needs across skin care, hair care, sleep, energy, hormones, supplements, mood and beyond. Menopause wellness takes an empowering approach, celebrating the complete spectrum of this life stage.
5. Clinical kudos – proof-points to affirm testing and prove the validity of their claims.
Consumers are seeking for information they can trust since the pandemic, especially in a world of misinformation online. Having serious proven scientific testing/clinicals empowers the consumer to have faith in a new product to purchase.
Glow up your beauty game by being intentional with the products you use to create a mindful beauty ritual that works for you.
